Personal Branding: Defining your story & building your brand

Have you ever had these thoughts?

  • 'I'm accomplished and credible in my traditional field, and I want to change jobs, but why would a hiring manager choose me over somebody who's already worked in their function and industry?'
  • 'I'm 50+ and I'm changing careers -- or trying to. So far, I haven't had much success.'
  • 'Recruiters can't see the relevance of my background to the jobs they're trying to fill -- so I'm afraid hiring managers won't see me as a viable candidate.'
  • 'How do I update LinkedIn or other social media platforms to showcase what I bring to the table?'
  • 'I'm thinking about venturing out on my own, how do I create a compelling story for my personal brand?'

Remember:

Talent doesn't equal recognition.

Success doesn't speak for itself.

Doing great work is only half the battle. The other half is shining the light on your achievements. If you are looking to change jobs or even transition into another career, branding is crucial.

What is a Personal Brand?

Think about your brand as your personal reputation.

A personal brand is your presence—either online or offline—that represents you, your values, and what you bring to the table.

You don't have to be a Kardashian to have a brand, but a strong professional brand is essential. A personal brand allows you to communicate your expertise, your experience, and your personality all at once.

Your personal brand is:

  • How you promote yourself and how you promote yourself online.
  • The unique combination of skills, experience, and value, and personality that you want others to see.
  • Your story.

To bottom line it:

Your personal brand tells people who you are, what you're about, and why they need you. If you want to find out how to brand yourself for the career you want and not just the career you have, let's set up a coaching consultation today.".
